about

The lyrics started as dreamy imaginings about living on the international space station. But when Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022, we started to feel uncomfortable with some of the Russian lyrics. It's hard enough to know how people will make meaning of words in English, and we were concerned that the lyrics in Russian might somehow be perceived as support for Russia. They are not meant to be. We support Ukraine.

lyrics

sixteen times light comes rolling from the other side
это рассвет
sixteen times we watch a dissipating tide
это закат

ночью нил светится, как морской дракон
как конёк
как только закроем глаза, берег расстелется
слева направо

окружаем мир
окружаем вас

saturday i'm looking down i'm gazing out,
a buttermint is melting in my mouth
evening porches all light up though i can't see them
asterion takes a break, enjoys their tea
meanwhile, parties on the beach
some kind of moonlit trapeze
a maze of bees a whirl of blues
oceans swirling by in hues

шестнадцать раз, свет приходит с другой стороны
it's the sun
шестнадцать раз, видим рассеивающийся зыбь
and it's gone

ночью нил светится, как морской дракон
как конёк
как только закроем глаза, берег расстелется
слева направо

окружаем мир
окружаем вас

saturday i'm looking down i'm gazing out,
a buttermint is melting in my mouth
evening porches all light up though i can't see them
asterion takes a break, enjoys their tea
meanwhile, parties on the beach
some kind of moonlit trapeze
a maze of bees a whirl of blues
oceans swirling by in hues
