about

Sadie: I wrote this song in a songwriting class a long time ago. The other students were writing these songs with complex lyrics and chord changes, and I said screw it I'm going in the opposite direction. Clocking in at 82 seconds long, we discuss topics such as foggy brain and Jesus's low-quality friends. I like the bit where we howl as I sing about being a cartoon character walking off a cliff. It was only as I was writing this that I realized the connection between howling and Wile E. Coyote.

lyrics

i don’t think it’s contagious
because it happens all the time
oh hey can i tell you the story
about the freight trains
in my brain

they start out in the freight yard
when it’s time to put them on the track
i spit them out all in the wrong order
this is my brain
these are my thoughts

the head the hands the feet
the head the hands the feet
it’s nothing if not complete
and it’s so hard to explain
so hard to explain

i’m glad it’s not like jesus
he had a crappy lot of friends
hey wait can i tell you bout
that feeling i get almost every day
yeah it’s happening again

that’s how it is when you’re a cartoon
and the scenery changes right behind you
and you don't know if you're walking off a cliff
or something less dramatic
something less dramatic

the head the hands the feet
the head the hands the feet
it’s nothing if not complete
and it’s so hard to explain
so hard to explain

about

The Invisible Cities San Francisco, California

We play loud and soft, guitar-y and loopy, dreamy and dancy, and tend to shift gears from song to song. Among other things, we are fans of The Breeders, Yo La Tengo, and the sprawl of the white album. And The Expanse.
