about

Welcome to week #3!

This week’s song is called Zoetrope, and it's (partially) about frogs you sometimes see in museums. We hope you like it.

We also found an old video of Han and Sadie performing it at Martin Wong's house on a sunny Los Angeles afternoon way back in 2009, when we were doing weekend tours with Goh Nakamura across the country courtesy of JetBlue's All-you-can-fly pass. Thanks to Dean Matsueda for recording and editing the video!

lyrics

we look at the frogs
behind the glass
not frozen in time
the monkey one
has opposable thumbs
he can climb

but the zoetrope
you like the way it sounds
and the zoetrope moves

one lives two-thirds ice
in a winter pond
up til the spring
some get blocked by fungus
and they can’t breathe
through their skin

but the zoetrope
you like the way that it sounds
the zoetrope moves
the zoetrope
you like the way that it sounds
zoetrope

you say
you often find
you like the way paul brings things to mind

later we will come back from the bar
and we will say how lucky we are
out on the steps with all the stars
